Shepherd of Hermas 3

114 chapters The 14 Chosen Books (Restored) AUTHORIZED APRIL 8, 2026 A.D.
← Mission Dashboard
1 After she had spoken these words, the heavens were shut. And I was struck with grief and fear, and I said to myself: If this sin is recorded against me, how can I be saved?
2 Or how shall I propitiate God for my sins, which are full-grown? Or with what words shall I entreat the Lord that He may be propitious unto me?
3 While I was deliberating on these things in my heart, I saw before me a great white chair made of snow-white wool. And there came an ancient lady in glistening raiment, having a book in her hands.
4 And she sat down alone and greeted me: Good morning, Hermas. Then I said: Good morning, Lady. And she said to me: Why so gloomy, Hermas, who art patient and good-tempered?
5 I said to her: I have been reproached by an excellent lady, who says that I sinned against her. She said: Far be this from the servant of God! But perhaps it was a desire after her that rose in thine heart.
6 It is in the servants of God that such a design brings sin. For it is an evil and mad purpose in a fully devoted spirit, if it desire an evil deed, and especially if it be Hermas the temperate.
