As I went to Cumae, at about the same season as the year before, as I walked about, I recalled the vision of the former year. And again the spirit took me up and bore me away to the same place where I had been the year before.
2
When I arrived at the place I fell upon my knees and began to pray to the Lord, and to glorify His name, that He counted me worthy and made known to me my former sins.
3
After I rose up from prayer, I saw before me the ancient lady whom I had seen the year before, walking and reading a little book. And she said to me: Canst thou report these things to God's elect?
4
I say to her: Lady, I cannot recollect so much. But give me the little book, that I may copy it. Take it, she said, and you shall give it me back.
5
I took it and went to a certain spot in the field and copied it letter by letter, for I could not make out the syllables. And when I had finished writing the letters of the book, suddenly the book was snatched out of my hand.
