Yea verily, but let us see whether this people or the former people is the heir, and whether the covenant is for us or for them.
Now hear what the scripture saith concerning the people. And Moses prayed and fasted in Mount Sinai forty days and forty nights, and received the covenant from the Lord, even tables of stone written with the finger of the hand of the Lord.
But having turned to idols they lost it. For the Lord speaketh thus: Moses, Moses, go down quickly; for thy people, whom thou leddest forth from the land of Egypt, have committed iniquity.
And Moses understood and threw the two tables from his hands; and their covenant was broken to pieces, that the covenant of the beloved Jesus might be sealed unto our hearts in the hope which springeth from faith in Him.
Now though I would fain write many things, not as a teacher, but as becometh one who loveth you — not to fall short of that which we possess — I was eager to write, being your devoted slave. Wherefore let us take heed in these last days.
For the whole time of our faith will profit us nothing, unless now in the season of lawlessness and in the offences that are to be, we resist as becometh the sons of God.
That the Black One may find no means of entrance, let us flee from every vanity, let us utterly hate the works of the way of wickedness.
Do not by retiring apart live alone as if ye were already justified, but come together and make common enquiry concerning that which tendeth to your general welfare.
For the scripture saith: Woe unto them that are wise in their own conceits, and prudent in their own sight. Let us be spiritual; let us be a temple perfected for God.
