Epistle of Barnabas 8
1
But what think ye meaneth the type, that Israel is commanded that those men whose sins are full grown should bring a heifer, and after slaying it should burn it, and then children should take the ashes and put them into vessels, and bind scarlet wool on a stick?
2
And bind them in hyssop, and that the children should thus sprinkle the people one by one, that they may be purified from their sins.
3
Perceive ye how plainly He speaketh unto you. The calf is Jesus; the sinful men who offer it are those who offered Him for the slaughter.
4
Then they are no more men, no more is the glory of sinners. The children that sprinkle are they that preached unto us the forgiveness of sins and the purification of hearts.
5
To whom He gave the authority of the Gospel, being twelve in number, corresponding to the twelve tribes of Israel, to preach.
6
But wherefore are the children that sprinkle three in number? For a testimony unto Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because these are mighty before God.
7
And wherefore was the wool put on the stick? Because the kingdom of Jesus is on the cross, and they that set their hope on Him shall live forever.
